William David Howell

William David Howell, age 56, of Cottage Grove, Tenn., died Thursday, January 14, 2016, at his residence in Cottage Grove, Tenn. 

David was a member of Olive Branch Methodist Church.  He was a 1979 Graduate of Henry County High School.  He enjoyed Music and Drawing Pictures and drawing posters for his friends.

He was born May 23, 1959 in Evanston, IL to the late James David Howell and Rebecca Neeley Howell of Cottage Grove, TN

Besides his mother, he is also survived by his two Aunts,  Jean McDaniel of Cottage Grove, TN,  Ruth King of Gatlinburg, TN;  two Uncles,  Gene Howell of Paris, TN,  Edward Howell of Paris, TN;  and Several Cousins.

Besides his father, he was also preceded in death by a Brother,  James Michael Howell.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St., Paris, Tenn., where the visitation will be from 10 am – 1 pm Saturday, January 16, 2016.    The Funeral Service will be at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 16, 2016.

Mike Wimberley will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Ricky Newell,  Edward Howell,  W.H. Hartsfield, Larry Cox,  Justin McDaniel, and Gary Casey.  Interment will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Buchanan, Ten

Joe Brogdon

Joe Glenn Brogdon, age 85, of Paris, Tenn., died Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at his residence in Paris, Tenn. 

Joe was the former co-owner of Joe & Jerry Car Care in Paris, TN with his brother Jerry.   He was a lifelong cattle farmer.    He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a former member of the Optimist Club, Elks Lodge and the Jaycees.

He was born December 25, 1930 in Paris, TN to the late Clifford Brogdon and the late Virgie Mai Holden Brogdon.

Joe was married July 12, 1952 to Jean Chandler Brogdon and she survives.   He is also survived by his  one Son,  Barry (Denise) Brogdon of Paris, Tenn;  one Brother,  Jerry (Kaye) Brogdon of Paris, Tenn;  one Grandson, Cliff (Monica) Brogdon of Paris, TN;  two Step-Grandchildren,  Hailey and Hayden Hixson;  two Nephews,  Jeff and Stacy Brogdon and their families.          

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St., Paris, Tenn., where the visitation will be from 4 – 8 pm Wednesday, January 13, 2016 and from 9 – 11 am Thursday, January 14, 2016.      The Funeral Service will be at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home at 11:00 am Thursday, January 14, 2016.

Rev. Dennis Vance, Brian Wimberley, and Mike Wimberley will officiate.   Pallbearers will be Jeff Brogdon, Hunter Brogdon, Tyler Brogdon, Weston Brogdon, Larry Mahan, Steve Clendenin, Andy Hooper, and Mike Holden. 

Interment will be at Olive Branch Cemetery in Cottage Grove, Tenn.

Ricky Evans

Ricky Evans, age 59, of Henry, Tenn., died Monday, January 11, 2016, at his residence in Henry, Tenn.

He was a 1974 Graduate of  Henry County High School where he played baseball, basketball, and was voted "Best All Around."    He worked at Servall for 20 plus years as supervisor.   Ricky had Coached Little League Baseball, AYSO Soccer, and  basketball for several years.    He played college baseball at Memphis State as well as Jackson State.  He enjoyed watching sports and his favorite Baseball Team was the San Francisco Giants.

Ricky was born January 13, 1956 in Paris, Tennessee to the late Paul Evans and the late Billie Jean Killebrew Evans.

He was married to Sherry Leigh Smith Evans she preceded in death December 10, 1988.  He is survived by his  One Son,  Ethan Evans of Henry, Tenn;  One Sister,  Peggy (Tony) Nance of Puryear, Tenn;  Two Brothers,  Mitchell (Linda) Evans of Cottage Grove, Tenn,  Doug (Cathy) Evans of Springville, Tenn;  Several Nieces & Nephews;  Aunt,  Lottie Wilson of Lebanon, TN; and Uncle,  Richard (Ann) Killebrew of Humboldt, TN. 

Besides his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by  Nephews,  Jason Evans and Greg Evans.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St., Paris, Tenn., where the visitation will be from 4 – 7 pm Wednesday, January 13, 2016 and from 12 – 2 pm  Thursday, January 14, 2016.     The Funeral Service will be at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 14, 2016.

Interment will be at Poplar Grove Cemetery in Springville, Tenn.

Doris Crews

Doris Graham Crews, age 97 of Paris died Tuesday January 12th at HCMC.

Visitation will be at McEvoy Funreal Home, 5 to 8pm Wednesday Janaury 13th and after 10am on Thurs. Jan. 14th until service time at 11:30am. Burial will follow in Bevil Cemetery.

Doris was a farm wife, homemaker and mother. She worked at Henry County Nursing Home for 17 years and her service went beyond her job.  She lived for 75 years on part of the Cannon Homestead which has recently been acknowledged as a “Century Farm.”   Doris had a vast knowledge of gardening and farming, was an avid lover of nature, especially trees. She loved children.   She grew beautiful flowers.  She was a wonderful cook who shared her talents with all she knew and no one ever left her house hungry.  Doris was an expert quilter and seamstress. She was a life-long member of Springhill Baptist Church.

Roger Burke Sr.

RET SMSgt Roger L. Burke, Sr., USAF  age 84 of Paris, TN passed away Monday January 11, 2016  in Nashville, TN.

Funeral service 2:00PM Thursday January 14, 2016 at McEvoy Funeral Home with Bro. Roger Graham of the Henry Church of Christ officiating, burial will follow at Bevil Cemetery.

Named as pallbearers are Roger Burke, Jr., Jeffrey Alan Burke, Jerry Wayne Burke, Kelly James Burke, Ret. SSgt Michael Burke Richardson, USAF Major Erick Lee Burke. Honorary pallbearers are Patrick Lee Burke, Ryan Morgan Burke and Danny Conger.

Visitation 4:00 - 8:00PM Wednesday and after 12:00 Noon Thursday.

He was born in Paris, TN July 18, 1931 to the late Fonnie E. and Flora Fitch Burk.  On May 18, 1995 he married Wanda Conger Burke, she survives Paris, TN.

Survived by a daughter: Donna Burke Richardson, Puryear, TN; sons: Roger L. (Debbie) Burke, Jr., Paris, TN, Jeffery A. (Angelia) Burke, Camden, TN, Jerry W. Burke, Henry, TN, Kelly J. (Jacquta) Burke, Paris, TN; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Preceded by sisters: Henrietta Dunn, Ruby Larson; brothers: Odell Burke, F.E. Burke and Raymond Burke.

Mr. Burke retired after 21 years of service with the US Air Force as Senior Master Sergeant.  He loved to fish and was a jack of all trades who could repair anything.

Paul Spandikow

Paul William Spandikow, 89, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at his vacation home in Springville, TN.  He was born on July 14, 1926 in Oak Park, IL to Elmer and Amanda (Giertz) Spandikow.

Paul grew up in Melrose Park, IL.  He graduated as valedictorian from East Leyden High School in Franklin Park, IL.  He was inducted into the United States Navy in 1944 and served for 2 years where he served on the Piedmont, Ar 532 and USS Abnaki AFT 96.  He was discharged in 1946, achieving the rank of Electricians Mate Third Class.

Paul married Beth Hester in 1948 in Rushville, IN.  They were happily married for 40 years. After Beth’s death in 1988, he married Betty Wagner in 1993. They were married for 15 years before her death in 2008.

Paul was a man of faith and a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Paris, TN.  He was also a long time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Melrose Park, IL.  He enjoyed model railroading, reading, jigsaw puzzles and square dancing.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Amanda Spandikow, his wives, Beth and Betty Spandikow, his son, Paul Curtis Spandikow, and his grandson, David Spandikow Jr.

Paul is survived by his sons, Mark (Donna) Spandikow of Glen Ellyn, IL, John (Deborah) Spandikow of Seaford, DE, David Spandikow of Springville, TN; his daughters, Pamela Reese of Evanston, IL, Bonnie (Chip) Dice of Danbury, CT, Connie (Gerardo) Perez of Gilberts, IL; his daughter-in-law Sharon (Mike) Owens of IN; his grandchildren Justin Spandikow, Jennifer Wallis, Mark Spandikow Jr., Steven Spandikow, Heidi Spandikow, Christopher Spandikow, Emily Wescott, Alyssa Fuller, Charlette Pruett, Jennifer Karijolic, Alex Reese, Eric Reese, Greg Giltner, Jessica Dice, Taylor Dice, Erin Barth, Tatiana Bissonnette; and his great-grandchildren Paul Spandikow, Auberon Wescott, Crawford and Deliana Spandikow, Gauge Dice, and Persephone and Daphne Barth.

Visitation and memorial services will be held at the Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St., Paris, TN on Tuesday, January 12 at noon and also at the Bormann Funeral Home, 1600 Chicago Ave., Melrose Park, IL, on Saturday, January 16 beginning at 9am, service at 11am.

Euna Adams

Euna E. Adams, age 81, of Mansfield, Tenn., died Friday, January  8, 2016, at Henry County Healthcare Center in Paris, Tenn. 

She was born January 17, 1934, in Sikeston, Mo., to the late  Robert Hampton and the late Mary Burns Hampton. 

She was a member of Christ Gospel Church in Camden, TN.   She formerly worked at K-Mart in Indiana and she enjoyed cooking and caring for children and other people.

She was married Feburary 20, 1952, to Hershel Adams, who preceded in death January 14, 2008.  She is survived by her four grandchildren, Robert (Michelle) Adams, Micah Adams, Dustin Adams,and Michelle Humphrey; three great grandchildren, Conner Humphrey, Emma Humphrey, and one other;  along with several nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Russell "Rusty" Adams; sisters, Sibble Lambert, Nola Hays, Grace Stephens, and Naomi Hampton; and brothers, J.W. Hampton and Bobby Hampton.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St., Paris, Tenn., where visitation will be from 4 – 7 pm Monday, January 11, 2016 and from 10 am – 1 pm Tuesday, January 12, 2016.  The funeral service will be at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home at 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 12, 2016 .

Charles Cooper

Charles Edward Cooper, age 79, of Paris, Tenn., died Thursday, January  7, 2016, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. 

 

He was born January 16, 1936, in Huntingdon, Tenn., to the late Ira Cooper and the late Ada Estelle Cooper.

 

He was married September 3, 1980 to Gloria Haddock, his wife of 35 years, who survives. He was a member of Enon Baptist Church in McKenzie, TN. He retired from Dana Corporation and formerly worked at Gaines Manufacturing & Replogle Enterprises.

 

Along with his wife, he is also survived by a son, Patrick (Stephanie) Cooper of Paris, Tenn.; step-son, Albert (Michelle) Vassar of Paris, Tenn.; two step-daughters, Rosemary Lane & friend Dennis Hoofman of Paris, Tenn.; and Linda Vassar of Henderson, Tenn.; five grandchildren:  Craig Puckett, Mariah Hill, Joseph Brunzel, Kayla Vassar & friend Gerald Moore, & Dylan (Emma) Lane.; and five great-grandchildren.

 

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Barlow and Margaret Cooper; and one brother, James Cooper.

Box 788, Paris, Tenn., where visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Saturday, January  9, 2016, and from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM Sunday, January 10, 2016.  The funeral service will be at LeDon Chapel Ridgeway Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 10, 2016.

Pauline Thetford

Pauline Thetford, age 75, of Springville, Tenn., died Friday, January 8, 2016, at her residence in Springville, Tenn. surrounded by family. 

 

She was a member of Sulphur Well Church of Christ where she was co-leader of Primetimers and served on the Cooking Teams and Card Ministry.   Pauline was a lifelong servant to others.  She was also a longtime former member of Main Street Church of Christ in Milan, TN and retired from Ceco Door Company in Milan after 25 years.  She was also a former Jaycette in Milan.  She enjoyed Gardening, Sewing and Crafts of any kind.

 

She was born February 8, 1940 in Newbern, TN to the late Alton Qualls and the late Louise Ross Qualls.

 

Pauline married Roy Thetford August 22, 1958 and he survives.  She is also survived by her one Daughter,  Rhonda (Kevin) Mayo of Bartlett, Tenn;  two Sons,  Randy (Anita) Thetford of Rives, Tenn,  Rance (Deeanna) Thetford of Medina, Tenn;  two Brothers,  Joe Qualls of Newbern, Tenn, Don (Becky) Qualls of Obion, Tenn;  two Sister-in-laws,  Sarah Boatwright of St. Petersburg, FL,  Beverly Albritton of Delray Beach, FL;   7 Grandchildren,  Allison (Clint) Ary, Ashley Thetford, Lauren (Blake) Neal,  Logan Mayo, Sadie Thetford, Ellie Thetford, and Neely Thetford;  and Several Nieces and Nephews.

Visitation will be at Sulphur Well Church of Christ from 4 – 8 pm Sunday, January 10, 2016 and from 9 – 11 am Monday, January 11, 2016.     The Funeral Service will be at Sulphur Well Church of Christ at 11:00 am Monday, January 11, 2016. 

 

Randy Stephens will officiate.   Pallbearers will be Larry Parker,  Logan Mayo, Charlie Sweatt,  Lynn Parker,  Larry Wimberley, and Glenn Wimberley.   The Sulphur Well Sewing Sisters are named as Honorary Pallbearers.

 

Interment will be at Sulphur Well Church of Christ Cemetery in Springville, Tenn.

Anthony Enoch

Anthony W. Enoch, age 56, of Paris died Wednesday Jan. 6th at Regional Hospital of Jackson.

Visitation will be 4-7pm Monday January 11 and after 9am on Tuesday January 12th at McEvoy Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 11am on Tuesday with burial to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

George Bell

George Edward Bell, Jr., age 70, of Buchanan, Tenn., died Saturday, January 2, 2016, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.

He married January 6, 1966 to Betty Godwin Bell, who survives. He was a member of Sulphur Well Church of Christ. He served as a drill instructor for in the US Marine Core where he served in Vietnam and received the Purple Heart. He was also a former contractor who helped build Music Village USA & Twitty City. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

He was the son of the late George Bell and the late Hazel Bell.

He is also survived by his two daughters, Cindy Bell (Alec) Seals of Naples, Fla., and Jody Bell of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one son, Ricky Bell of Murray, Ky.; one sister: Phyllis Cairnes of Linden, Wash.  Seven grandchildren: Alexandria Rebecca & Evan Seals, Summer and Joshua Bell, Christopher Shekell II and Andrew Pajor; and a great grandchild: Noah Mason.

Mary Combs

Mary Elizabeth Combs, age 56, of Paris, Tenn., died Tuesday January 5, 2016, at Henry County Medical Center in Paris, Tenn.

She married October 1, 1993 to Corbin Lynn Combs, who survives. She was a member New Bethel Baptist Church, a self- employed secretary and she loved fishing.

She was the daughter of the late Willie Joe Hudgins and the late Shirley Ruth Thomas Hudgins.

She is also survived by her daughter, Kelly Lynn Combs of Paris, Tenn., two sons:  Michael Adam McCullough of Paris, Tenn. & Matthew Allen (Courtney) McCullough, II of Glen Carbon, Ill. Mrs. Combs also leaves one grandchild: Rylee Jo McCullough.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Keith Randall Hudgins.

Kenneth Valentine

Kenneth Harold Valentine, age 74 of Paris, TN passed away at his residence Monday January 4, 2016.

Funeral Service  12:00PM Saturday January 9, 2016 at Buchanan United Methodist Church with  David Allen Jackson officiating, burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearer: Jimmy Lee Valentine.

Visitation 4:00 - 8:00PM Friday at McEvoy Funeral Home.

Visitation after 11:00AM Saturday at Buchanan United Methodist Church.

He was born in Puryear, TN to the late L.T. "Pete" and Bernice Hart Valentine.

On May 2, 1952 he married Annetta Adams Valentine, she preceded March 23, 2006.

Survived by a daughter: Jeanine (Keith) Rogers, Buchanan, TN; sons: Harold Wallace "Hal" (Lavinia) Valentine, Italy, Gregory Adams Valentine, KY; sisters: Betty Jo (Billy Wayne) Smith, Puryear, TN, Mildred Moore, Paris, TN, Patricia Ann Thomas, Jackson, TN; brothers: Barney (Brenda) Valentine, Puryear, TN, Jimmy Lee Valentine, Puryear, TN, Frank (Charlene) Valentine, Paris, TN; grandchildren: Adam Valentine, Joshua Valentine, Shandus Bree Valentine, Andrew Valentine, Nathan Joseph Krizmanich, II; great-grandchildren: Maggie and Jame Parrish.

Kenneth was a farmer in the Buchanan community for a number of years.  He worked at Holley Carburetor of Paris until it closed and worked as a truck driver with MCH until retiring.

Kent Young

Kent E. Young, age 32 of Buchanan, TN passed away Saturday January 2, 2016 at his residence.

Memorial Service 3:30PM Sunday January 10, 2016 at Open Doors Community Church with Senior Pastor Joe McClure officiating.

Visitation one hour prior to the memorial service.

He was born in Chanute, KS to Keith E. Young and Esther Penn (Ronald) Parkin all of Paris, TN.

Survived by his wife: Sherry Kay Glass Young, Buchanan, TN; twin daughters: Sky Star Young and Autumn Rain Young, Buchanan, TN; sons: Elijah Milton Nativadad, Murray, KY, Cameron Blake Lacy, Waverly, TN; sisters: Sonya Kay Woods, Paris, TN, Rachael Lea Young, Sharon, TN; paternal grandparents: Eddie Young, Montgomery City, MO, Helen Berry, Paris, TN; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Preceded by his maternal grandparents: James and Ruth Penn.

Kent was a member of Open Doors Community Church.   He loved his children and his wife said his children favored him over her.  He loved to fish and other outdoor activities.

Sherry Lynn Nicholson Davis

Sherry Lynn Nicholson Davis, age 53 of Paris, TN passed away Monday December 28, 2015 at Henry County Healthcare Center. Her body is to be cremated and there are no services scheduled at this time.

She was born on February 3, 1962 in San Diego County, California to the late Jack Nicholson Sr., and the late Julia Faye Todd Nicholson.

She is survived by a sister Jennifer (Todd) Smith and a brother Jack Nicholson all of Tennessee.

Sherry was a member of the Community of Christ Church. She was also an animal lover. Donations in her memory may be made to the Humane Society or Pet Rescue Organization of your choice.


Anna May Lavine

Mrs. Anna May Lavine, age 96 of Paris, TN passed away Tuesday morning December 29, 2015 at her residence. Her body is to be cremated and no services are scheduled at this time.

She was born May 9, 1919 in Stockton, California to the late Steve Arbanasin and the late Mary Merinovich Arbanasin. On June 20th, 1943 she married Earl Lavine who preceded her in death on November 6, 2013.

Mrs. Lavine is survived by sons: Earl (Becky) Lavine of Paris, TN and Michael Lavine of Elk Grove, CA; brother: Steve (Dorothy) Arbanasin of Stockton, CA; grandchildren; Melissa N. Lavine of Paris, TN and Lee (Kristy) Parnell of LaVergne, TN; Great-Grandchildren: Ashton and Shelby Parnell; Niece: Pam Lavine; Nephew: Steve (Patti) Page and other nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lavine is also preceded by a sister Mary Jane Page.


James Dudley Barnett

James Dudley Barnett, age 94, of Paris, Tenn., died Sunday, December 27, 2015, at Paris Healthcare & Rehab Center in Paris, Tenn.  He was the son of the late Charles Barnett and the late Grace Duke Gossett.

He was married May 22, 1948, to Mary Edith Doty Barnett, who survives. They were married 67 years.  He was a retired tool and die maker in Detroit, MI. He moved back to Paris in early 1970's & opened Keepsake Gallery.  He had a passion for gardening & woodworking, was an award winning cook, an artist & actor. He was proudest of his philanthropic work in missionary trips to Haiti, South American, Japan, & World Changers in Memphis, TN as a member of First Baptist Church.  He formerly was a 32nd degree Shriner, a member Henry County Historical Society, served on the Henry Co. Fair Board.

Besides his wife survivors include: two Daughters, Mariann Black of Paris, Tenn., Brenda Lea (Steven) Dudzinski of Rougemont, N.C., Two Sisters: Dorothy Veazey of Paris, Tenn., Doris Barnett of Paris, Tenn., Grandchildren: Sebastian Black , Alex Dudzinski and David Dwight (Jess) Dudzinski and a great grandchild: Sophia Dudzinski.

Along with his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a son James Douglas “Jim” Barnett in 2008 and a brother Thomas Barnett.   

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St. - P.O. Box 788, Paris, Tenn., where the family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM Wednesday, December 30, 2015 the funeral service will be at LeDon Chapel Ridgeway Funeral Home at 3:00 PM Wednesday, December 30, 2015, with Scott Shepherd officiating.

 Interment will be at Olive Branch Cemetery in Cottage Grove, Tenn.
